Definition: An Assistant Early Childhood Teacher assists the Teacher and may only be alone with a single group of children for 1 hour during nap time or for 2 hours at opening and before closing, as long as there 8 or fewer children.
There are 3 options for becoming certified as an Assistant Early Childhood Teacher.
Option 1: Complete the Early Childhood Teacher - Entry Level Certificate at TCR - no additional experience needed! To complete this certificate, you need to complete ECE 101 and ECE 103.
Option 2: Completion of one of the early childhood education courses with a course grade of “C” or better and twelve (12) months (1820 hours) verified experience at a full day program. Assistant early childhood teachers must be enrolled in and attending the second (2nd) early childhood education class which will be used as the basis for their qualification for the position of early childhood teacher.
Option 3: Persons having completed two (2) of the early childhood education classes with a course grade of “C” or better , one of which is either ECE 101 or ECE 103, and no experience .
Option 4. A current early childhood professional Credential Level I Version 1.0 or 2.0 as determined by the Colorado Department of Education.
All college course grades toward early childhood teacher qualifications must be “C” or better.
